A Crappy Day Literally!

We have been so busy enjoying summer that we haven't stopped to do housework and laundry. So today was the day. We cleaned hard and did a lot of laundry but there was still something stinky in the house. I sent all the kids to shower and took out the garbage, but something still stunk. We began searching under beds and behind things but found nothing to account for the smell. Peter came home from work and ran down to the basement to grab something and discovered the source of the smell the septic tank was backing up into the basement. There was ankle deep sewage in the basement (thank goodness it is not finished). We called Chris in a panic to come help and then saved things stored down there. I had wanted to clean the basement this summer but this is not what I had in mind! We ended up having to dig up the septic tank and replacing all the leach lines that were clogged. It was all very disgusting! But the basement is now super clean and we dejunked tons of stuff before putting it all back. Cross one off the summer to do list!
