Rennisance Conference in Orlando

This is Alex writing for my mom about the trip I took to Orlando, Florida for the Jostens Renaissance conference. It was a great conference for the Student Government. I went with my friends Ryan Brooks, Chyvonne Stowe, Lisadawn Cooper, Kelsie Nelson, Hailey McLemore, and Airamee Beebee. Our Student Government advisor, Mrs. Suggett, fell off her horse and broke her wrist and had to get surgery the day before we left, so our PE teacher/basketball coach/bishop Mr. Cottam or Fry as we all call him(Don't ask why) went with us. The night before we left we stayed at Airamee's aunt's house in Murray. Our flight left the next morning and we landed in Orlando about five that night. We missed the shuttle launch by about half hour. We checked into our hotel The Carribe Royal and swam in the pool the first night.

On the second day we went to the Magical Kingdom at Disney World as a group because the conference hadn't started yet. We spent almost all day there and it was great.

Friday was the first day of the conference. We had The Grand Opening Session where Kevin Carrol talked to us. He was an athletic trainer for the Philadelphia 76ers and now works for Nike designing commercials. After that Jostens paid for us all to go to Disney World again. We went to Hollywood Studios this time and the blocked of The Twilight Zone Hollywood Tower of Terror and The Rock and Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith for us and rented a DJ. We all went to the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular Show.

On Saturday we went to the rally. The theme was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was a great rally and I got recognized for getting a 4.0 gpa and being a honor roll student athlete. My group had the most points at the end of all the games so we all got free t-shirts. That night we had a semi-formal dinner and an awards banquet. After that we had the comedian/magician Tim Gabrielson. He was great.

On the last day of the conference at the grand closing session we had Erin Gruwell come and talk. If any of you have seen the movie "The Freedom Writers" she is the teacher from it. She gave a great talk. After that we checked out of the hotel, went to the gift shop, and then headed for the airport. We landed in Salt Lake at 9:00 and decided just to come straight home instead of staying another night with the Crists. We got home about two in the morning.
