Spelunking!

Hey, this is Alex just documenting the best Friday I have had in a long time for my mom.

So there I was just driving around with Virge and Kolton in Virge's truck trying to decide what to do. X-box was out because we have played so much lately that our brains had started to melt. Somewhere in the conversation the word "spelunking" was thrown out. So I tell them about the cave our family discovered while out geo-caching. Soon we have decided to go on an adventure. We gathered our supplies, which consisted of 3 flashlights, firewood, a portable DVD player and the movie "The Cave". We pick up a couple more friends and head out on our expedition. By the time we get to the trailhead we realize 2 things. First it is dark and we are hiking up a really steep mountain while carrying a whole bunch of stuff. Second the really steep mountain is covered in about two feet of snow and we are all wearing tennis shoes. We decided to just carry on because the snow is mostly frozen over and we are invincible. This seems like a good plan except that at random times our feet break through the frozen snow and we sink to our knees but being too manly to give up we keep going. When we get about 100 feet from the cave we see some fairly fresh cougar tracks and what is probably cougar scat. So we do what any smart group of teenage boys would do......turn around, drive back into town, get a gun and hike it a second time. When we get inside the cave we realize that we left the DVD player in the car this time but we decide not to hike it a 3rd time because the first 2 times were brillant enough. It takes us about 5 minutes to get a fire going and Brandon doesn't think that it is big enough and throws a large log on smothering our fire. We waste our last two matches and still don't have a fire. So we decide our expedition is a bust. Plan to do it again the first chance we get and head down the mountain. On the way down I step on a branch and Brandon starts shouting at Verge to shoot the cougar before it eats him. Luckily Virge is my cool headed friend and realizes I am not a cougar and I survive the night. With just an hour until midnight we decide to play some more X- box!
